About the dogs in Cesar Millan Live Seminars
At Cesar Millan Live, Cesar performs demonstrations with dogs and their owners with ‘everyday’ and ‘common’ issues. The welfare of the dog is his first priority. Cesar does not believe in quick fixes. Therefore the objective of the demonstration is not to rehabilitate dogs on stage, but to demonstrate how Cesar believes these problems manifest themselves and how we are humans often contribute to these issues by the way we relate to dogs. Through his years of experience with all types of dogs and owners, Cesar will share and demonstrate that for a real transformation to take place in a dog, a real transformation quite often needs to take place in the owner first.
Dog welfare is our top priority and, due to a limited amount of time and a live environment, we have very stringent processes in place to ensure that the dogs we demonstrate are appropriate for a live seminar environment.
From the description the owners give and in some cases a phone interview, we then select a shortlist of 15 – 20 dogs to come along to the official dog selection prior to the seminar taking place.
At the dog selection, our trainer – together with a veterinarian – assesses the dogs, to select those that best represent what Cesar would like to safely demonstrate in a live seminar environment. Selection is an important part of our process, giving the vet and ourselves the opportunity to view all dogs outside of the live seminar environment.

What we look for in the dogs
Cesar looks for dogs that display everyday remedial problems that audience members might experience at home. Some examples are pulling on the lead, obsessed with objects, limited boundaries, hyperactivity, or no manners around food. We believe that through these demonstrations people will see where they contribute to their dogs problems and if they need to seek some help via a professional dog trainer. At each event we also have inspirational dogs – those dogs giving back to the community or demonstrating high levels of partnership with their owner.
What you won’t see at a Cesar Millan Live Seminar
Cesar’s first responsibility is to the dogs he is working with. Given the live environment, he obviously has limited time to work with the dogs. Therefore, we do not invite dogs with extreme problems or ‘red zone’ dogs that would require intensive training, as this isn’t fair to the dog. This type of training requires time and, in some cases a pack, to resolve issues.
Naturally, we do not look for dogs that display aggression and have attacked humans or other dogs, or that display any extreme behavioural conditions; for example are so timid that it would be too stressful and unfair to bring them into a live environment.
Cesar will cover these issues in the live seminar however, for the sake of the dogs, he will do this using video and explanation of why these issues occur and what steps you can take to help your dog.
